Dear play140 Players & Friends:
We wanted to let you all know that earlier this month, play140 was acquired by an exceedingly cool company called Oomba that you haven’t heard about yet – but surely will! They are currently operating in “stealth mode”, but you can get an entertaining feel for what Oomba might be up to via their teaser web site: http://www.oomba.com/ .
This pairing was an attractive fit for Oomba because they get to pull some crazy weirdo folks (us play140 nuts are NUTS!) into their fold; and they get access to play140′s technology. play140 has deep experience in the markets that Oomba is going after and we felt that the 1 + 1 here would be well larger than 2. The play140 crew has joined Oomba.
Oomba has its hands in lots of game cookie jars. The T.A.G. The Acronym Game servers will continue chugging along, and at some point in the not-too-distant future, we’ll continue work expanding the game for our great players!
play140 wouldn’t be where we are today without the amazing players and supporters who have supported us over the past two years. We can’t begin to express our gratitude adequately via a blog post, but we’ll leave you with an acronym that hopefully captures the spirit

Eeek!!
T.A.G. The Acronym Game has had fifty thousand games played, as of 4:05am ET this morning. Our game has changed dramatically since its humble beginnings as a game played through Twitter. Now the bulk of our plays take place through Facebook… who knows where T.A.G. will appear in the future?
Everyone who played in our fifty-thousandth public game will receive a rare “50,000″ stamp. Everyone that plays this weekend will get a different “50,000″ stamp to celebrate.
Our games are truly social; there would be no Acronym Game without its players. And the players we have rock – they help make the funniest five minutes on Facebook. They are smart and witty players from around the world, getting together to have some fun with words. Come join us!
Congrats to Jess M. and Lina G. for winning the first two Trophy Challenges! Our next pair of events take place next week:
- Thursday 7/7 1600 UTC (Noon USA East Coast, 2130 India, 2359 Manila)
- Friday 7/8 0400 UTC (Thursday 2359 USA East Coast, Friday 0930 India, Friday 1200 Manila)
Click either of the times to get the exact time for your location. Hope to see you there!
We have launched the new look of T.A.G. on Facebook. It is still an HTML app; you can still play without Flash. We’re very excited to get this out there, just in time for this week’s Trophy Challenge Games… and another surprise or two we’ll be announcing in the coming days.
(And if you are still using an old web browser, please upgrade. Our game looks best on a web browser released within the past three years.)
This note is for people still using Internet Explorer 7 or earlier… we are implementing new features into the game and they look much better under a newer browser. Here is a list of browsers to update to:
Everyone who plays in a T.A.G. Challenge gets extra coins. Whoever scores the most points during the first three games of the hour will earn a winners-only T.A.G. Challenge Trophy Stamp! There will be two T.A.G. Challenges next week: Friday June 24 0100 UTC and again at 1300 UTC that same day. (Click either link to find that time in your time zone.)
